the Hammerhead- Print Club Prep
Welcome to the fourth month of print club! For a quick recap, I have been making a series of linocut prints from my home studio based on the marine creatures from my recent aquarium visits. This has been an exploration of block print materials, as well as a dive into the countless marine creatures that we coexist with.
The print club has been a fun learning experiment for the past few months, and I have come upon my first real delay. The holiday season has sneaked up on me rather quickly, and I find myself several days behind on much of the work I would have liked to have done by now.
That being said, the print is in progress, and the December print will be a hammerhead. Seeing these beauties swimming together in the aquarium made me feel like I was flying. Something about the layout of the shark tank at the Georgia Aquarium being floor level makes you feel like you are in the water with the sharks, and they cruise by on their sides to see you through the glass. The photos aren’t the best because the room is dark, but it was truly lovely to behold. The sleek 6-foot sharks slowly swam in figure 8s and up to the windows, putting perspective on the size of the beasts.
This month, the blog is coming out just before the prints are finished, unlike previous months. I want to explore with different ink colors and layering. With Thanksgiving week behind us, I can fully dive into the work of December’s print!
Sign up to receive this print before the 20th of December, and you will receive a 4x6 print and a poem specially written by me via snail mail!
